FROM THE IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE SUPPORT (IRSC) COMMITTEE--HELPING AFGHAN REFUGEES

The committee has been very busy with the influx of Afghans, Ukrainians, Central Americans and other refugees and asylum seekers. Coming to the United States for any reason is complicated and just getting here is not the end of what surely has been a frightening journey. Most have fled from war, violence, poverty and the effects of climate change. Many have nothing and, depending on immigration status, little from our government in the way of support. They rely on humanitarian assistance for their survival, even now.

Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church is Certified as a PC(USA) Earth Care Congregation

Shepherdstown, WV – Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church was certified as an Earth Care Congregation by Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s Presbyterian Hunger Program through February 2023. This honor speaks to the great commitment that Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church has made to care for God’s earth.

Session considering support of Build Back Better Act

Session wants to let the congregation know that they are considering whether SPC should formally support a congressional bill of importance to people in WV and nationwide. The Social Justice Committee asked the Session to consider signing a resolution to urge WV Senators Manchin and Capito to vote for the Build Back Better (BBB) Act.

Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Form

"THE OTHER SIDE" - CAMPAIGN FOR MIGRANTS STRANDED IN MEXICO

Migrants from all countries who make their way to the Southern ports of entry to seek asylum are begin expelled, most without an opportunity to apply for asylum. Remain in Mexico and Title 42 strands asylum seekers in towns with little or no services and exposed to the dangerous gangs and cartels.

Afghan Refugee Support

On January 5th Rie Wilson from the SPC Immigrant and Refugee Support Committee and her friends Pug and Jerry loaded a 15’ truck with donations for Afghan refugees and parolees and delivered them to a storage location in Winchester, Virginia.
